And they wonder why MANY people question their patriotism?
Perhaps the Republicans are questioning the hypocrisy of the "greenest convention?" Perhaps they're questioning why the democrats had no use for the flags for the remainder of the campaign?

You also do NOT THROW OUT an American Flag. Aren't you supposed to dispose of it properly? Burning is the proper way, though newer flags may be dangereous to burn. In that case, disposal by other means so the flag cannot be defaced is the normal respect given, and obviously NOT given in this case.

But the bigger question becomes, why not give those flags to people who do not have them? Schools? Organizations?
Instead, to throw them out is a disgrace. And a waste. And a show of hypocrisy.
Obama tells us if we just keep our tires properly inflated that will save the U.S. more oil than we could possibly drill offshore or in other exploratory drilling areas. But they throw away thousands of perfectly good U.S. flags that they could re-use in their own campaign, or simply give to American citizens to display their patriotism. I have a teeny tiny U.S. flag in my front garden area that I got last year, its a bit worn and tattered, but the symbol is there. I'm not going to trash it for a new one until I have to. I would love to have one of these flags, especialy a 3x5 ft flag!

The Dems could have used a very small portion of the amount they paid for the coronation to hire for recycling.

Does this suprise anyone? The Democrats and the writer of this article are clueless when it comes to proper disposal of the US Flag. They don't have any respect for our national flag or the sacrifices that have been made over the years by our military. To them, patriotism is finding faults with our country, and like Jimmy Carter and suck ilk, going overseas and badmouthing the President, our military and country. As for German patriotism, of the Nazi sort, it was "Blood line" patriotism which brought about the murder of as many Slavs, Jews ect. It wasn't the health sort of American patriotism.

I happened to watching the Democrat convention the night they were waving all those flags and the first thing that I thought was that you typical Democrat is not going to think of bringing an American flag with them. Most of them probably don’t even own one. Remember these are the same people who debated if it was proper to display the flag after 9/11.
Come on. How about save them for next time. Or use them at a rally. Or donate them to a VFW chapter for a fundraiser. Or a million other things.

The housing, bank crisis, and gas prises were just fine until the Democrats took over Congress in 2006. It was the Democrats in Congress who urged mortgage companies to give loans to people who would normally be unqualified. Barack Obama is on record saying that he thought gas should be this high, but that he didn't think it should have gotten there that fast. You Obama supporters have bigger problems than this. I was at Investco and I was a delegate. Like many of my counterparts I am proud to have saved my flag from that historic day. I question the authenticity of the reported numbers. Obviously, this is a hit job and I hope voters can see through this crap. To quote Samuel Johnson Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

This action might represent a lot of things - but being politically smart certainly isn't one of them.
Showing more concern over eating locally grown organic purple-colored foods than the proper disposal of the Red, White, and Blue certainly tells us much about the people making decisions for the Obama camp.
If Obama doesn't start convincing a whole lot of average Americans that he is truly one of us, and soon, he is setting himself up for a really bad loss at the polls in November.
Because right now it looks like the tide is definitely turning in the McCain-Palin direction!
In trying to make a big promotional point about being so "green" at their convention they disposed of as trash a symbol of our country. That's real. When you mention the war, look at the voting record of the democrats. You will find the vast majority of them supported it. That's real. When you mention deregulated markets you better look at who really pushed that. I am not sure but I bet it was a bunch of liberal democrats that wanted to make it easier for their struggling constituents to get into a home, whether they could afford it or not. That's a good question you need to answer. The banking crisis is real, but business is supposed to fail if it does something with poor judgement. Who voted to bail them out? Let's see, the majority party is the democratic party, so that must have been their idea. That's real. Climbing unemployment, that is usually caused by a slow economy and lost jobs. We have had an economic slowdown, that's real. But the unemployment rate is still better than it has been in about 20 of the last 28 years. That's real. Blame whomever you want on that, mostly it is too hard to compete in America because we want to tax too much and there are other places for corporations to take their business. Who wants to raise the taxes more? That's real.
Maybe you would be better off talking about the unreal things.

How about paying $300 for a plane ticket instead of $1200? Again, deregulation. Your choice: you want freedom, you have to accept some of the negatives that go with it. You want everything controlled by the government...well, go to the old Soviet Union and see how well that worked out.
Scott, try reading the Constitution and then decide which country you would rather be in. It's appalling how many people love to rail in generalities about how lousy the Republican government has been or how awful the free markets are, yet those same people love to live in the land of plenty that has been brought about by those freedoms. You obviously weren't around when Jimmy Carter was president and the Dems had had control of both houses of Congress and the White House since 1954, excepting the Nixon-Ford whitehouse years of 69 to 76. How about 12 percent inflation, 10% unemployment and short term interest rates of near 20%? Is that the type of "regulated" country you would prefer to live in? Well, go ahead, vote for Obama and, yep, you may get to witness that kind of malaise again.
I've lived through both and believe me, it is infinitely better now, even with all of its imperfections.
It's too bad you feel that fighting for freedom in Iraq is "stupid." I suppose you would have rather had them attack us first and then after we had lost thousands of civilians, then go after them. Or wait until there are more civilians in Iraq killed from thier own oppressive govt. first. And you know what causes a housing and financial crisis? When lenders lend money to people who can't afford to pay them back and they eventually go bankrupt. You can't blame the President on the ordinary person's choice to get a loan he can't pay back, or a house that he can't afford to pay for. Live responsibly and none of this would happen. Democrats believe that you can live the way you want with no consequence, but if something goes wrong, the govt. should expand and bail them out of the hole they dug for themselves. The flag issue is an actual issue as well, because the Democrats have made the enviroment, as well as recycling, a main issue in politics for years, but here again, they don't follow their own teaching. Look at Al Gore, the champion for fighting global warming and his power hungry house he lives in.
And to others who see the Flag as just a piece of cloth made in Taiwan, I can tell that you have never had to face a gun pointed at you and at this Country, and while hunkered down in the mud and the blood surrounding you, while focused for a minute or hours on that "symbol". There does come a time when looking at a picture of your wife, or child, or just staring at the Flag on your fallen friend's uniform is the inspiration to drag yourself up and keep on fighting. It's just a piece of cloth essential to reminding yourself that you are there defending the Freedom of your fellow Citizens, Family, Friends and self. It's just a piece of cloth on your friend's blood-soaked uniform that reminds you as you look at him, of his commitment to defend Freedom from those who lust to destroy it.
These pieces of cloth are therefore revered; a "symbol" of all of the millions of fallen men and women who gave their lives for that symbol —the symbol representing their loved ones. Trust me that at that moment, they, and all else loved in this Country is contained in that cloth.
That flag also represents the sacrifice of Lewis and Clark who kept a flag flying while struggling over frozen passes so that today, we Americans can live in the luxury and wonders of Seattle and everything in between. But I suppose that it's just the soft nature of humans to only manage a, "so what", this far removed from the men who died for that expedition.
There is no way to list the millions of personal sacrifices that contributed to this wonderful land that we all enjoy; I AM very sad for those who never pause in their luxury to remember or even care.
But for those of us who do, that piece of cloth contains all of our history within those weaves and stitches. What else can you hold in front of your face or watch majestically flying in the wind that does?
These are just a blog comment of the endless reasons that we previously chose to treat the Flag as if it were the human body of your closest loved one. You would never cast a loved one into the trash; inside a plastic bag or out. What would you do for a loved one who had died for you?
In a reverent ceremony, you would say appropriate words and hold that person's body from laying in the dirt or even touching the ground. You would hold that person's body in honor. Then, with the same reverence, you would bury that body or cremate it in a fire of honor.
The Right is going to exploit this to reinforce the perception that the Left is unpatriotic and hypocritical when it comes to recycling.
One can attack the Right for doing this. But, we all know that if the tables were reversed, the Left would do the same thing.

How about shipping them to a local sporting event and give them to fans, who could show their patriotism in the stands?
How about giving one to all the 80,000 attendees on the way out of the Messiah's speech?

It's almost like this is maybe, uh, a made-up issue designed to distract us from the issues that matter like 8 year of massive failure on nearly every front.
Displaying these flags in trash bags on a stage will be a greater desecration than allowing them to go privately to a resting place.
I don't think allowing a flag to be recycled is morally superior to the private disposition of a flag which has served it purpose.
I am appalled at the number of flags still flown publicly in disgraceful condition, dirty and tattered.

Well, there were a lot of things the Democrats could have done with the flags, other than disrespectfully throw them into the trash. They could have made them available for their supporters. There are even well-recognized ways to dispose of them properly, if that was what they wanted to do.
Remember, they bought those flags for their supporters with the intention of giving the public the impression that they are openly patriotic, and love their country.
Then, after the show, the Democrats chose to throw them in the trash. Therefore, the Republicans should point that out to the people of this country because it does reflect poorly on the Democrats' sense of values.
Sounds to me like the Democrats amply proved by their actions that they question their own patriotism. They'll pretend to have it for the length of a speech, and then throw the flag in the trash on the way out the door.

STANDARDS of RESPECT

* The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.
* The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.
* The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.
The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

The very sight of the flag brings tears to my eyes. Out of the very deep love for country, and admiration for all that flag represents. Too many Liberals despise what our flag represents. They spit on it, burn it, and disrespect it in every way.
I will note though that to let these flags touch the ground, as in the picture, is disrespectful as well. But I understand the intent, so it's no big deal. But a Liberal will try and contrast that to say Republicans do it too. However it doesn't wash.
Liberals have no clue when it comes to pride in this country, respect for the American people, love for our Military, veterans, etc... And these Vets who support the democratic ticket, are sellouts. They embarrass me.

If the two layers were serious about getting America "back to work," they would call the house and senate back into session - they can now, they are the leaders of their party - it is called leadership. Count on more talk and no action - one month from the government shutting down and still not one appropriations bill is signed. No wonder businesses are laying folks off, no assurance in the government - the White House or Congressional leaders.

How about collecting them and sending them to a Veteran's hospital, or a veteran's cemetery, or donating them to the Boy Scouts? The flags can still be used so why throw them away? Put them to good use, recycle (like they claimed), and help out an organization that might not be able to afford flags.

I put up a flag pole and flag after 9-11. It is well lit at night and as soon as it is tattered I replace it with a new one. I have a ceremony with family and veterans where we properly place the old flag to rest.
And my flag never, and I mean never, touches the ground until it is retired.
This is more than a symbol of America, it represents brave men and women who gave thier lives so that I can proudly present to others a reminder of why we are free to live in "the greatest country on God's green earth".

Democrats have run both houses and controlled everything for two years now. What's happened? Oil/gas prices doubled, inflation and unemployment up. The economy was FINE two years ago. Remember?
So, I guess controlling BOTH houses of congress means they had no hand in this and had no power? LOL! Come on. I know you pinkos disdain Bush, but the Democrats have had all the power for two years. When the Demos took office, unemployment was below 5% (now 6.1) and oil was at $60 a barrel. It hit $140 recently.

As an American citizen I find it hard to believe that there wasn't a single person involved in the decision to throw these flags away that knew that one phone call to ANY local veterans group would have brought an instant response of veteran volunteers picking them up and bestowing heaps of gratitude upon the responible party (DNC, Democrat party, union employees or other) and the positive press would be gladly given. It appears that there was a concious decision to NOT use the flags for whatever reason and then to dispose of them without concern.
To the Boy Scouts---Thank You for your patriotism.
Liberals view the flag as a prop to advance their agenda while Conservatives view the flag as the embodiment of their values and ideals.
Simple... give them to a graveyard. Most of them will take donations like that. Have a bunch of kids go around and put a flag on each veteran's grave. Or, just freaking save them for Obama's next speech somewhere, or donate them to the city of Denver for their parade.

Let's get a few things straight here. First of all, the democrat controlled Congress are the ones who have significantly hurt our economy with their refusal to let us drill for more oil. The price of oil has affected the cost of living in general. Second, the war on terror on BOTH fronts was very necessary since AlQueda was in Iraq, too -- and we've basically won it!!! Plus we haven't suffered any other terrorist attacks since Sept. 11th, 2001, so it is obvious that Bush's plan has worked and worked well. Thirdly, banks do business, and the gov't has no place putting so many regulations on them. If you took out a mortgage with no money down that was too large for you and you have bad credit to boot, then that is YOUR fault, not the gov't's!!
Fourth, employment may be up slightly, but I'll just bet it is mostly those so called "journalists" who were put out of work from all of their biased writing and unprofessionalism. And to that I say a big "Hooray!" I don't care to ever see any of them again -- that is, unless they are asking me if I want fries with that! And last of all, we aren't flag-waving here; instead we are pointing out how your side is full of a lot of hot air and bogus promises, telling us to do as they say but not as they do. A lesson on the "housing crisis." It was provoked by people such as yourself who pushed for the banking reforms of the late 1990s to make housing "more accessible" to various minorities. Guess what? "Housing" (i.e., hot market expensive properties) wasn't available to those buyers because they couldn't afford it. While there was, admittedly, some abuse of lending criteria in the margins, most of the problem was on the buyer side. It's no surprise that a household with $75,000 annual income can't afford a $500,000 mortgage. "What do you mean, the interest-only loan I qualified under eventually escalates to 8.5%?" "How was I supposed to know what that means?" Similar congressional tinkering lead to the S&L collapse in the 1980s. But somehow, congress and proponents of such schemes (like you, Scott), complain about the results, but never accept any of the blame for your social failed engineering. Get a job, stay employed, save your money, then buy a house you can afford. Period.

The Dems that were elected to congress and senate on the premise to stop this War did not live up to their promises either. This makes me sick to my stomach. I have seen SO MANY men have REVERENCE for the flag. From the car dealer I worked for, to the barber shop on Main Street in Oklahoma. All of this took place in the minute that it took me to walk into traffic on our very busy corner to pick up that little flag. It was dirty from being run over numerous times, but it was still intact but dirtied. I carried that flag back to my car, as the drivers around watched me proudly display it for all to see. I thought to myself, here is a perfect display of the ideals and ethics of the democrats here in San Jose, California, where we Republicans and conservatives are out numbered 3 to 1.
It demonstrates to me and to all of you writing here today the vast difference between Republicans and most Democrats. It illustrates perfectly the gulf separating we patriots willing to fight and die for the symbol of freedom and liberty and those that would throw it in the trash, or run over it with their cars.

Really? Haven't you noticed that flags are sold in stores all year round and especially at holidays like Independence Day? The flags could have been donated to schools or to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc., for sale in a thrift store. In the military, I was charged with hoisting and retrieving the flag and after we folded it with the respect and precision it deserved, we held it to our chests with both hands like the precious object it is. Do the people at the DNC really think this is acceptable...or do they even care? I imagine all they care about is the fact that they've been caught in the act.

Apparently is never occurred to anyone at the DNC that throwing away an American flag, or in this case a LOT of American flags, would not be the proper way to show the flag some respect.

It's a little hard to attribute patriotism to people, though, that seem to never really show any when the media isn't looking.

A. Give the flags away.
B. Donate them to a local Veteran Group, Towns, sports team, etc.

American flag or not (sacred, I personally NEVER throw one away) why wouldn't you still recycle them?

However, having grown up as a military brat overseas and spent most of my military career overseas and in a couple of wars, the United States Flag means a lot to me. When I would see the Flag raised over my unit or lowered during a retreat ceremony, pride swelled in my heart.
I think some of those who talk of the U.S. Flag as "just a symbol" should live in a place where they don't have the entire United Stated to "protect them" or our soldiers overseas to protect them. Then, see how that piece of cloth becomes "just a symbol".
We have problems in this country, for sure. But for all its flaws, it's STILL the best country in the world. And the U.S. Flag is a grand symbol of it.
However, for the first time in my life, I'm still voting Democrat.

For a campaign based almost entirely upon symbolism, it was really stupid for the Obama campaign not to think about what to do with the flags after they were done with them. I have no doubt that they made a point to have separate receptacles available for recycling aluminum cans. Why did it not occur to them to have separate receptacles for recycling flags?
Worship of the flag is what's wrong with this country. As a Christian and former Boy Scout who reveres the country, I am voting for Obama in the hope - pun intended - we can put 8 years of nightmarish "leadership" behind us.

I remember Nancy Pelosi proclaiming "We Have The Power" after the dems took control of Congress in 2006. Since then, "the Power" as she put it was used exclusively to stymie every program conceived by her opposition across the aisle which is -- unlike hers -- a "Loyal Opposition". Her "do-nothing Congress" has turned obstructionism into a fine art and her policies have been solely responsible for the astronomical price of gasoline diesel fuel and home heating oil this year.
The dems sneer at patriots, religion and middle-America. Every nutty lunatic fringe pressure group finds a warm welcome with the dems yet none of their wants are really satisfied.
The dems have forgotten Abraham Lincoln's classic observation: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time." Or perhaps they'd rather pretend it doesn't apply to them. I suspect the latter.

To those who say it is a piece of cloth, that is true. But there are standard procedures for disposal of the flag and the garbage is not one of them. It just shows a lack of respect.
As far as the Republicans running the country into the ground. Who has been in charge of both the House and the Senate The economy did not really decline until about 18 months ago.
Not all scouting or veterans' organizations (DAV, AmLegion, MC League, etc) conduct flag burning ceremonies. In the event a vet org that facilitaes flag burning cannot be located The Flag Keepers (flagkeepers.org) gladly excepts all American, POW, and state flags.
The American flag should be treated with dignity and respect.
Place blame were it belongs - not at the easiest most convenient target.
Going off the way most of the posters here are acting - you would have to logically be able to attribute 9/11 directly to George Bush, since he was the president at the time. It was his fault, he must not be very patriotic to have let that happen. Shame on him.

Frankly, has anyone seen the disposal bins at the exits of amusement park rides for 3-d glasses? Well, judging from the fact that liberals will go to any length to recycle dirty used grocery bags and also from the fact that they went to great lengths to make their convention "green", from organic food to every ridiculous sort of symbolic nonsense, one would have thought that they would have done the same for these American flags. Apparently, dirty grocery bags are more important than our flag. The Republicans don't need to "question" anyone's patriotism. The act of trashing those flags speaks volumes.

If America is going to continue to be strong, we need to realize that the two parties have different opinions about how to run the country, but that Dems, Reps, other parties and independents ALL LOVE AMERICA.

If you truly believe our great nation can not stand if someone destroys a flag in a manner that you don't approve of, you have very little faith in the power of democracy and what America stands for.

I ran a small charity, and we would have loved if someone donated flags to us, instead of us having to pay for them. As for the economy? That's not the fault of a Republican President or a Democratic Congress. It's the fault of overspending and selfish Americans who wish to live beyond their means. I watched a line of 10 people at Starbucks one day. 7 of the 10 used a credit card to buy a $6 + cup of coffee. (I left after that epiphany)
My neighbor was having problems paying bills. He and his wife claimed it was because of gas prices but they have a leased Fort SportTrac (14mpg on a good day) and his work truck (<10mpg). They don't discipline their children so the school claimed they had ADD and wanted to put them on a drug. The neighbor, instead, pulled them out and sent them to a private school, costing them another $500 a month. To solve everything, they got a 2nd mortgage and with "extra" money, they bought a $5000 hot tub.
I can give examples all day long but the point is... THAT is the problem with the country. The congress and president are just scapegoats for the economy. I have problems with the president and congress, but it involves spending and involvement in my life. I'm not stupid enough to blame them for everything though. I see a nation of excuses so we will never vote our way out of our problems unless people change.
I can remember when there were patiots in the Democratic Party. It's too bad that it has degenerated into a "cult of personality" that is focused on yet another failed lawyer in politics.

Maybe this country should be split up between the neocon supporters and the middleclass who have worked hard and deserve and want better than what is happening. Let the neocons destroy their own citizens and their portion of the country and let the middleclass have their leaders make decisions in their best interest instead of the rich bankers and corporate America. Keith, it is more than that. If that was all we expected from a President, it would be easier to just hire somebody as the United States CEO. The issues you talked about are surely important, even critical, but patriotism, love of country, respect for the flag that you represent, country before self, those are the things that we need in a President. The country needs a leader, not a large scale community organizer.

1. They could have saved them for a future extravagant event.
2. They could have told delegates to take them home.
3. They could have used them to fund raise on their website as official flags from the Dumbo Convention. Just print some authenticity certificate and have Hussein Obama and Biden sign them. Sell the ones with original signatures for $100 [Limited Edition ones] and the ones with printed signatures for $25.
4. They could have given them to Vet groups that would have gladly figured out something to do with them.
5. Since they are so convinced they are going to win, they could have saved them for their big party when they win in November.
6. They could have saved them for holidays where flags are placed on Vet's graves. Any Vet organization would have gladly accepted them.
7. If they really are lame and they did not "want to be bothered" with doing anything with the flags, then they should have treated them with respect and disposed of them the way flags are supposed to be disposed of.

The DNC should be ashamed, but since they have no shame. . . . .
1. Democrats only use the flag to advance political gain, it serves no other purpose for them.

Obviously, as a whole the flag represents the USA, but let's look deeper at its colors about which some wonderful Southern Baptist missionaries taught me those many years ago:

I wore the uniform of this country, VERY PROUDLY for 12 years. I figure that gives me a right to comment.
Obama has no respect for the flag or this country, or anything for which it stands.
That is obvious in his comments and actions. The fact that they threw all those flags in the trash is only symptomatic of what that party/campaign truly thinks about America and its internationally recognized emblem.
Obama refuses to acknowledge the flag during the playing of the national anthem. He only recently started wearing the flag lapel pin after people objected so loudly at his refusal to do so. His first reaction to that criticism was to defend his actions be claiming that wearing the flag pin did not show patriotism and to point out his refusal to wear it was somehow wrong.
As others have said there are APPROPRIATE methods to dispose of the flag, trashing it is not acceptable.
Am I angry about their actions? You bet I am.

The flag is a symbol of national pride. Americans who burn American flags would never burn a Cuban flag. Never. The answer's all you need to know.
WHY?
1. Because the Democrats have been telling us non-stop that they're the only party who cares about the planet.
2. They have constantly accused the Republicans of being responsible for trashing the planet.
3. They made such a big deal out of how "GREEN" their convention was going to be.
This isn't the first report of the DNC not being so green after all. And of course, some things have to be thrown away rather than recycled -- but American flags certainly are not it.
I gotta say, looking at the big flashy production made by the DNC vs. the simple (maybe a bit boring by comparison) RNC, it sure shows us how/where our money is going to be spent by each party.
So you have to decide if you want glitz & glamour or meat & potatoes.
It may be just one blunder, but it is symbolic of the way the Democratic party says one thing and does another.
1. Had the organizers finished taking all remaining convention materials out of the buiding yet? Perhaps this building worker was a bit too zealous in search for anything that could incriminate the Democratic Party. And just because they were in garbage bags doesn't mean they were going into the trash. Black plastic bags are used for holding materials like this all the time.
2. The flags could have been accidentally, and not intentionally left behind. There could have been confusion on who had responsibility to bring them out of the buiding and in the process they remained in the building.
3. They could have been planted there by Democratic opponents, specifically to set up a story like this, to portray the Dems as anti-patriotic, wasteful, etc.
Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions on this story.

How many times have we seen pictures and statues of the raising of our flag at Iwo Jima? How many people died there? Yet we prevailed and were proud to see our flag waving high and proud.

Even if it were true that a few hundred, out of 75,000, of the people present that night dropped the flags on the ground, who in this situation is causing America more harm; the convention goer who drops a flag or the Republican politicians who allowed our flag to be made in Vietnamese sweatshops in the first place? McCain Plays the Cameron Card
According to a article just out from Huffington Post, the story about flags from the Democratic National Convention being thrown away is simply false. The story was jumped on and apparently authored by the McCain campaign. But the real tell is down in the Huffpo piece where it traces the story to none other than Fox News' Carl Cameron....
Really - I didn't know Democrat was now a race - thought it was a mental condition. Consider yourself a moron. If you think it is about race, perhaps you should look in the mirror for the real racist.
However, the more I analyzed this story and photo, I started to question what really happened here.
The flags are cleanly placed in bags, and not tossed with other refuse.
Do we know for sure they were really intended for the trash? The only evidence is the garbage bags and the statement of the Invesco Field worker.
Who was in charge of cleaning up Invesco Field? It would seem it was these same workers. Do we know who made the decision to dispose of them?
Is there any way to verify the political affiliation of who actually made this decision?
Considering the Invesco Field worker has Republican affiliation, how do we know the same is not true of whomever made this decision?
We don't, and I doubt it was Obama himself.
I am not defending this action. If it is as it seems, I abhor it. I just don't believe there is enough information here to judge fairly.

I love my country deeply, and unlike 99.5% of our citizens, I actually fought in the war on terror. It wasn't a malicious attack, the Dems dropped the ball as no one came to claim them or even inquire about them - for over a week. Whomever was in charge of retrieving them (so says the Dems) failed to do that. After the event everyone went to parties and the flags were forgotten. The cleanup crews were simply getting the stadium ready for the CU/CSU football game. It was a simply oversight to pick them up - they were still in bundles of 15 with rubber bands around them, so it's my guess they were leftovers. An attempt was to send them to the VFWs and Cemetaries, but they were closed at the time people tried to contact them. So they were simply sent over to McCain's for use.
Remember, BOTH parties are going to put a spin on this to their own advantage.
Think about it, how many times have we all gone to a public event -only to forget sunglasses, or whatever. There was simply a lot going on and it WAS an oversight, a misque.
Why didn't the dems use those flags at their rally today? Is this the type of waste we can expect from their government programs? I say yes.
Judging by how neatly the flags were rolled up, they were obviously going to be used again at a future date. There isn't any other garbage in there to insinuate that they were going to the dumpster. The McCain campaign should be ashamed of themselves for lying about the American flag to question Obama's patriotism.

At his Town Hall meetings yesterday, Sen. Barack (the-sky-is-falling) Obama lectured everyone at the Metropolis Community Center about gas guzzling.
Ignoring the fact that it's August, and generally warm in Illinois, BO (Barack Obama) claimed that "the blame for the world's higher temperature rests on gas guzzling vehicles." His solution: switch to "higher mileage hybrids". Problem is, following his lecture, BO left in his GMC Envoy after "admitting to favoring SUV's".
BO's press secretary Tommy Vietor tried to cover up the junior senator's hypocrisy by explaining that what BO "has long advocated is the use of vehicles that are more fuel efficient, including, but not exclusively hybrids." According to Vietor, "the vehicle BO travels in while in Illinois is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV), which can (but I guess doesn't) run on e85, a blended fuel made of 85 percent ethanol."
However, according to the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, the GMC's Envoy is not e85 ready.

I wonder when the Republican party is going to stop lying to the American people and, more importantly, their own constituency. On the other hand, waving a simple flag doesn't necessary mean the person is being a patriot. 75,000 people waving flags at the DNC and how many of them can say "I am proud to be an American" from their heart. In Colorado it is. In this case it's actually worse than what those guys did. Stealing a couple dollars worth of old food is misdemeanor theft, 12,000 flags are worth well over $500, making it felony theft if anybody decides to prosecute.

I am sure the DNC can come up with a police report for the thousands of missing flags, or an email inquiry to the Field questioning the location of the flags. First, the DNC should come up with the documentation of what happened to the glorious columns. That will show the DNC attempts to keep track of SOMETHING! If the DNC thought enough to preserve the columns intact (they did), then the DNC can sure produce similar documentation regarding the 'recycling' plans for the flags. They don't have it. There was no plan. If this had not been brought up by the RNC, those flags would either still be sitting by a dumpster, or in a trash dump somewhere.

What makes you think there isn't a paper trail for arrangements to give the flags to the VFW and cemeteries? You do realize that there were about 125,000 flags there. It takes time to properly distribute that many "recycled" flags to other organizations. And you can tell by the photo with the Hefty bags that the flags were properly rolled up and waiting in the loading dock area. That there is a dumpster "nearby" in the loading dock does NOT mean that they were headed for the trash.
Your post makes no sense. If the flags were headed for the trash, they wouldn't be kept in singular bags the way they were. They'd be long gone by now, mixed up with the other trash. And the Red State photos only show tiny novelty flags that individual attendees probably threw away in garbage cans; that happens after ALL events (July 4, rallies, ball games, etc.) where lots of tiny flags are given out.
I hope the DNC takes legal action against the McCain campaign for stealing these flags.

This morning, Democrats tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver stole thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed to other Obama campaign stops.
The Republicans say no such thing happened and they will use the flags at their at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Republicans claim were not stolen but simply recycled.
Before McCain speaks today, bring out the trash bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and recount the story of the recycled flags.
Democrats tell a different story.
“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags that were stolen,” a Democrat official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”
"We have filed a report with the police and we are going to prosecute this Republican thief to the fullest extent of the law," the official said.
I’m not sure what the RNC wanted to do with stolen hand-flags meant of other Democratic events, frankly. But the Democrats are obviously fuming over the the fact that someone would steal their flags. Republicans stand by their claim they were recycled and continue redistribute them at Republican events.
The question for me is which side is telling the truth and who is the real patriot here?

If someone found 600 flags, that's about 1/2 of one percent of all the flags there.
They look like they have carefully rolled up and place in plastic bags to protect them.
I don't see how they were mistreated.
And maybe some convention center worker grabbed the bags by mistake and put them out on the loading dock.
Besides, they were found a week after the convention on the loading dock.
I would imagine all the trash from that convention had long been removed -- within 24 - 48 hours after the convention was over.
I think this is much ado about nothing...
NO ONE should question anyone else's patriotism in general terms without knowing that person or all the facts - that to me is unpatriotic.
These were NOT in a dumpster. They were clearly neatly rolled, clean and in plastic bags.
If the person who took these are an employee of Invesco one has to wonder if they regularly take items that sit on the loading docks for their personal use? And if it isn't an employee, who allowed them in? What right do they have to take items from Invesco Field?
Taking this many flags (12,000) would clearly constitute Grand Theft...a felony!

1) These flags were new/unused. They come bundled exactly as they are in the picture.
2) They come in boxes by the gross so I figure they opened more boxes than they needed as a good percentage of democrats wouldn't soil thier hands with an American flag.

How uncreative can the unDemocrats be? What with ebay someone could have sold the flags touting the true fact that they were straight from the convention. This is why they can not be trusted to run the country. This was the singularly least creative thing I have seen so far this year.
The secondary story, posted repeatedly by Tunes, is really kind of weird with its images of some flags mixed in with trash. Are Americans really more fussed about the proper disposal of all flags - including little paper ones - than the trashing that their Constitution has suffered over the last 8 years? (What am I to do with the little flags on toothpicks that I use for pineapple and cheese, etc at 4th of July picnics?)
Really, it looks looks like a complete distortion of values.

I am not Republican...or Democrat! Just a veteran who is tired of all the "Mud Slinging" which surrounds every election in the US. It makes me not want to vote because both parties are willing to lie, cheat, and make promises they can't keep to get elected! All I really know is that Bush has to go! On the otherhand, the Dems' carelessness with the flags are proving the Repubs' point of "Country First". The US Flag is a symbol of the country and its sacrifices and the symbol should be treated with respect.
I'll bet that in the future, the DNC will have a detail assigned to collect, handle and properly distribute flags. Unfortunately, the DNC will do so to protect their image rather than out of respect for the symbol of the country.
I wonder how long a democracy can survive in such an environment. He says they were left on a dock "near" a dumpster. Is it at least possible that IF these were, in fact, Obama's flags, that they had been taken there to be put on a truck and that someone screwed up and missed them?
Despite the statement about returning the flags, vendors do take back items then "resell" them back to the same people if they order a LOT. This saves transportation and storage fees for the buyer because the vendor picks them up and then delivers a "new" order at the next venue.
Given there will not likely be any single location that requires as many flags as were ordered for conventions, these would likely be repurchased in smaller quantities to be sent to numerous other locations.
I know this because I have a small promotional novelty company and this is not uncommon practice for large customers. Remember flags are not a custom item like a sign which is of no value to someone else. Flags always have buyers and will be welcome back by sellers.

You can't ignore the fact raising taxes on the "rich" is a code used by liberals that means raising taxes on business. No mater how you cut it taxes are a business expense. To extend that thought, if a business expenses increase something will change. The change will be one of the following, not necessarily in the order listed.
1. Price increase (paid by all consumers, even those that didn't get a tax increase)
2. Reduced work force (You made get laid off)
3. Production short cuts (Decreased quality of products)
4. Business profits will decrease ( in some cases to the point that they pay less tax)
The bottom line is for every action (tax) there's an equal and opposite reaction (see list above). To think otherwise you must believe there is such a thing as a free lunch.
Try (I know this may be difficult) to remember just who is the majority party in Congress and how the "mortgage mess" & unemployment & escalating energy costs have come about under the Dem's watch. Why, one MIGHT wonder just how our President has managed to create all this chaos? Is it fair to suspect that he's out-smarted these erstwhile Democrat paragons? UPDATE I: I just spoke with the person at Invesco who allegedly stole the flags and he thinks both sides are exaggerating a bit.
The person claims the majority of the bags with flags in them were near the trash, on a dock, and would have been thrown away anyways. So he took them.
The person thinks the Democrats were not going to reuse them or return them to the manufacturer.
The person doesn’t believe anyone was coming to get them: “The flags were there for a week and a day and no one came looking for them.”
So he took them instead and he doesn't think he should be prosecuted by the Democrats for it.

Fox News’ Carl Cameron and Bonney Kapp reported that they had “been told” that “a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.”
The Democratic convention official says that’s not true.
“It’s pretty reprehensible on their part,” he said. “Someone made an assumption, took the flags, and essentially lied about what was going to happen to them. I mean, c’mon, we were never ever going to throw out flags.”
Having spoken to the person who found the bags, it’s difficult to believe that anyone was coming to get them a week after the convention — or that they were “stolen.” If so, what is the name of the person who was coming to pick them up? I’ve sent a query asking that question.
It sounds to me like some intern or volunteer probably made a mistake with these flags and the McCain campaign used it to pull a gotcha.

Particularly the comment about deregulated markets, the housing mortgage crisis was caused in no small part by people like you and the NAACP, LULAC, Urban league,etc. that constantly harped about the "American dream being denied to (insert your favorite minority)". So, under pressure, loan requirements were lowered to shut them up and allow people without adequate credit and resources to buy 250+k homes. Short story, a huge amount of defaults by irresponsible people that couldn't make the payments (850 homes auctioned yesterday in DETROIT, for as low as 1k)

C'mon people, there is a war on. People are getting killed.
People are losing their homes. People are losing their jobs.
We are spending money at a crazy rate in a country overseas. We are not spending money to rebuild our nation. We are not improving our infrastructure to make our nation more attractive to businesses. We are not paying down our debt.
No responsible person can advocate tax cuts now. For the nation, it is like an average person taking a pay cut when they already can't afford their bills and are drowning in credit card debt.
Be a real citizen and a real patriot and educate yourself. Forget the stupid flags.
